It’s been a little while since I’ve updated this. We had ourselves a Joseph. He’s 14 months old now, has teeth everywhere, and has recently started walking. A few short weeks ago, we decided we needed a get away, so we called up the travel agent who helped us with our honeymoon (Bora Bora), she got us a few ideas, and voila! Turks and Caicos!

At this point, some of you are thinking, “are they really taking a 14 month old boy to a Carribbean island?” No! He’s staying home with the grandmas! So here’s a quick shout-out to all the grandmas out there who help make parenting possible, live able, and even fun!

There was nothing notable about our trip here except the time: our outgoing flight left Fort Wayne at 7am and we were touring the Beach House by 1:30. A shout out to Trevor, the poor guy running the gate at FWA who had to help some people who didn’t show up in time to make their flights. Everything for us ran on time.

We ate traveling food while we were traveling: Nathan’s hotdogs, Arby’s, and Cheez-Its (should that have an apostrophe? I’ve never known). When we arrived at the resort, we got a cool towel, checked in, were given a tour, and on our tour of the beach, the bartender had already made us rum punches to welcome us to the resort. Getting back to the room, we found chocolates in the refrigerator, gathered our gear, and set out for a beachside restaurant a family friend had recommended called the Somewhere Cafe and Lounge. The top deck was closed for weather (pop-up showers), so we grabbed a seat at the bar. Rum punch was on special, so we indulged, and had some chips and guacamole. Smooth and a little spicey. Adrienne had an enchilada platter – short rolled corn tortillas with squash, kale, and corn with black beans topped with cotija cheese and white rice. I had fish fajitas – small sections of lightly fried fish fillets with onions and peppers – seasoned so that no cheese or pico was needed – or even welcome! We ended up clearing our plates because we were so hungry!

At this point, we headed back to our room, Facetimed with the boy, and read. I am working through Fascism: A Warning by Madeleine Albright and Adrienne is reading Becoming by Michelle Obama.

We settled in early for the night, eager to see what the new day would bring.
